Transcend adds another industry accolade to its list with the recent ranking of number 169 on the Deloitte 500 list for North America and the fifth fastest growing company in technology, media, telecommunications, life sciences and clean technology in the Philadelphia region.
Transcend continues to be recognized for its staggering growth of more than 500 percent over a three year period. Transcend has acquired four companies in 28 months with successful integration and has sustained outstanding customer service and a strong reputation with vendors.
“To maintain our leadership position and grow through acquisitions, we were keenly focused on keeping our reputation for stellar customer service and strong partner and vendor relationships,” said Rick Hirsh, Transcend CEO. “We made sure to spend the right time and resources on identifying and acquiring appropriate companies to integrate into Transcend United’s business model, which allowed us to maintain our leadership status and grow at a fast pace.”
“Transcend United Technologies, like all 2011 Technology Fast 500™ companies, has excelled in fostering innovation and channeling it into spectacular growth — against the backdrop of one of the most challenging economies in history,” said Eric Openshaw, vice chairman and U.S. technology, media and telecommunications leader, Deloitte LLP.
In order to be eligible for the Deloitte recognitions, companies must own proprietary intellectual property or technology that is sold to customers in products that contribute to a majority of the company’s operating revenues. Companies must have base-year operating revenues of at least $50,000 USD, and current-year operating revenues of at least $5 million USD. Additionally, companies must be in business for a minimum of five years.

Mobility, Mobility, Mobility
Richard Tarity. Executive Vice President, Sales & Marketing
Transcend United Technologies
Interop is one of the most exciting trade shows of the year and 2011 was no exception. I’m always fascinated by the latest innovations exhibited there in areas such as cloud computing, virtualization, security, mobility, data center, networking and IT management.
One of the key themes I took away from the show in October was mobility. Everyone is talking about mobility. Why? It is because work is no longer a location, but an activity. We used to only be able to imagine being able to connect with customers, co-workers and partners at anytime, from anyplace and from any device. But that is now reality and technology like Transcend United’s Mobility solutions helps businesses meet the changing demands of the mobile workforce.
Knowledge workers of today are much different than the past and mobility plays a huge role in that. For example, today’s generation of users are used to working with data and applications in the cloud and expect immediate access to information. Additionally, this new breed of workers expects to be able to get information from anywhere, at any time, using any device they’d like to use.
This shift has made mobility a critical component in today’s workplace. Mobility enables businesses of all sizes to integrate leading smart phone and tablets with existing enterprise communication and applications and infrastructure securely, simply and cost-effectively.
Additionally, businesses today are deploying mobility to address the key challenges associated with factors that impact today’s worker, such as bring-your-own-device demands from employees (they are using to working with a device of their choosing), soaring international roaming costs, poor in-building coverage and integration into corporate PBX and Unified Communications (UC) systems.
Thus, mobility is an inherent component of Unified Communications, which easily integrates with multiple PBX platforms and UC systems. Mobile workers are free to communicate on devices of their choice from any location (office, home, hotspots) and any network (Wi-Fi , 3G/4G or cellular).
Organizations can no longer ignore this trend, it is imperative enterprises make mobility a key focus to give mobile workers (a number that continues to grow) more choice, flexibility, access and performance.

Avaya knows their business, that’s for sure. But the company also knows that there is a shift in customer service happening, driven by the advent of social media and a new tech-savvy generation of consumers, as well as new technology always arriving on the scene. A company that never rests on its laurels, Avaya intends to stay at the forefront and so Avaya decided to do some homework.
Avaya joined forces with callcentres.net for a study on customer service in the ever-changing tech world. The study revealed that 40 percent of consumers prefer non-voice methods of contact for customer service such as e-mail, instant messaging or Web chat. Additionally, in the next one to two years, 55 percent of consumers polled in the Avaya study anticipate using e-mail most often when seeking service (up from 15 percent today), while 18 percent said Web chat will be their preferred method (up from 2 percent today). The study also revealed that customers are also open to using social media channels for their customer service. A key finding from the research showed that customers are more willing to use multichannel methods for customer service interactions.
As a trusted partner of Avaya, Transcend United Technologies shares Avaya’s belief that addressing these changes is critical and the answer is a comprehensive approach to managing the customer experience.
Onkar Birk, Avaya’s contact center division general manager, agreed, “Today’s consumer interactions travel across many more communications modes: e-mail, text, video and now social media. As these multimedia requirements evolve into ‘transmedia’ needs—characterized by the seamless transfer of information across all kinds of communications—companies must effectively integrate all of these modes for consistency. Avaya addresses this with products driving high-quality customer experiences across various media, turning those experiences into competitive assets; expectations of consumers are a differentiator for leading businesses.”
Avaya took the research findings to heart and applied them to their latest update of the Avaya Aura Contact Center (AACC), the company’s SIP-based multimedia contact center application. AACC 6.2 has multimedia capabilities so that customers and agents can interact via multiple channels: voice, e-mail, Web chat, and instant messaging-whatever the customer prefers.
“As a valued partner of Avaya, we share a goal of always evaluating products and how it can be done better to service customers.”
This latest version aims to further improve the customer experience with social media integration capabilities. The capabilities include Avaya’s Social Media Manager, which enables agents to automatically scan and respond to Twitter and Facebook updates by customers. To better match the appropriate agents and their expertise with the customer need, the new version integrates with Avaya Aura Presence Service and Avaya Session Manager to display the presence status of appropriate experts. Agents can then consult with an expert in a particular customer care area using instant messaging to resolve customer inquiries faster.
Avaya isn’t stopping there, though-the company also enhanced its Avaya Voice Portal automated services (IVR) application, renaming it as Avaya Aura Experience Portal and adding new capabilities designed to reduce customer frustration.
Now, customer self-service sessions can be transferred to a live agent with the customer’s data input intact, eliminating the need for the customer to repeat their information already provided via self-service. We all know how frustrating it is to reach out to an organization over one channel, then change channels having to repeat themselves. Read more about Avaya Aura Contact Center 6.2.

Size matters when it comes to videoconferencing. That’s why it was such big news last July when Transcend United partner LifeSize announced LifeSize Connections™, a cloud-based HD video conferencing platform that delivers what LifeSize calls "immersive, multiparty communication at enterprise-level quality" on an affordable Software as a Service (SaaS) basis. LifeSize HD delivers nearly ten times the quality of existing videoconferencing systems — a whopping 1280 x 720 pixels at 30 frames per second. That’s capable of making participants appear true-to-size. And it’s the kind of picture quality that used to be available only in fancy board rooms with a hefty price tag and managed service burden. Now LifeSize puts HD video collaboration n the Cloud and brings it to team meeting rooms, production floors, even desktop Macs and PCs. And its pay-as-you-go pricing makes it something a lot of business can afford. The fact that you don’t need to spend a lot upfront on expensive equipment or maintain a traditional on-premise video infrastructure is a nice bonus. So if you have been sitting on the fence when it comes to HD video collaboration, now may time to jump in.

But wait. There’s even better news. Last month LifeSize and Avaya, another Transcend United partner, announced that LifeSize’s leading HD video collaboration products (LifeSize Passport and LifeSize Express 220) are now compliance-tested to work with key Avaya IP telephony solutions. The LifeSize applications now are compliance-tested by Avaya for compatibility with: Avaya Aura® Communication Manager and Avaya Aura® Session Manager with Avaya one-X® Communicator and the Avaya Desktop Video Device (audio only). That means that if Avaya provides your unified communications infrastructure, simple, cost-effective HD videoconferencing is virtually at your fingertips. It’s a pretty neat solution, and according to Paul Cantwell at LifeSize, it’s all part of the plan. “At LifeSize, we believe that video products work best when they are easy to implement within a company’s existing infrastructure.” Cantwell says. And according to Eric Rossman, Avaya VP of developer relations. “By participating in Avaya’s compliance testing program and committing to open standards, development partners like LifeSize are helping businesses get more out of their network investment,” Rossman says. “This helps our customers more easily communications-enable critical business processes and uncover new value that can help them build their bottom line.”
These new developments from LifeSize and Avaya represent a big step forward in making the technology more accessible and affordable to companies of all sizes. And since Transcend United is a valued partner to both companies, we’re in the perfect position to help our clients evaluate whether low cost IP-based HD videoconferencing is right for them. We may be a little biased, but we think the answer for many companies will be a resounding yes."

Written by Steve Benson, Sr. Vice President, Transcend United A service strategy by yet another name.
We have lived through the market buzz of how Application Service Providers (ASP) will change the enterprise-buying trends. But the software giants couldn’t figure out the license strategy to support it, so it stalled. Forget about the security and compliance nightmare that were afterthoughts.
Moving through the innovation cycle, Salesforce.com comes along with purpose-built software for multi-tenant provisioning, changes the market semantics to Software as a Service (SaaS) and all is good in corporate IT procurement departments.
The Small-to-Medium-sized Business (SMB) and Mid-Market migration to SaaS technology creates the market and offerings range from infrastructure appliance replacement to core ERP and portal technologies. Google validates the market and the fun begins. After playing in the datacenter with the Google appliance, Google “SaaS-ifies” everything and is leading cloud adoption into the larger-enterprise markets.
The latest stage in the movement to Utility Computing utopia is the “Cloud”. Who doesn’t have a Cloud offering? What sales cycle doesn’t include Cloud if only in discussion about the weather? Cloud is selling and buyers appear to have embraced it—regardless of the same underlying risks and issues presented by its ASP and SaaS predecessors. I’d speculate that with Cloud technology, there is far less due diligence on risk, and a much higher threshold for risk assumption, both educated and ignorant.
Bottom-line is the cost savings game and for some to keep pace with the early adopters or perceived competition. What are the drivers?
· Agility
· Cost
· Device and location independence
· Scalability
· Maintenance
· Security?
· And more…
Sound familiar? These value propositions are very similar to those touted for ASP and SaaS. The Cloud is evolving and we’ll place our bets on the right applications and infrastructure services targeted at the right Perfect Profiled Prospect. No hollow “Cloud” buzz for the sake of market lemmings. Targeted value proposition for the right services, based on a customer’s wants and needs, with weighted risk and rewards laid out on the table.
